I recently read an article by Roger Ebert entitled “Video Games Can Never Be Art,” arguing just that point from the perspective of a world-renowned film critic. He writes, “No one in or out of the field [the world of gaming] has ever been able to cite a game worthy of comparison with the great poets, filmmakers, novelists and poets.”

My name is Stephen, and I am an Art History student at the University of Arizona. I’m here to argue that Ebert and other close-minded individuals like him are terribly misinformed, and just plain wrong. I have a well-versed understanding of art history, primarily within the field of Western art. I don’t claim to be an expert by any means, but I love what I study, and I hope to convince readers that nerd culture and art can coexist.
